In Stockholm, the statistically most popular crag is Örnberget, because it’s closest to the city and is easy accessible. It has a gym feel. I have climbed for 35 years and I have visited Örnberget 3 times. Due to the many visitors the crag has status “Access is sensitive”. Therefore, it should not be displayed in “Most popular”, drawing more visitors. Remove it from that section.
Hi TheTopo team, all the suggestions below apply to bouldering problems, not sport climbing routes. I believe they would improve the accuracy of topos, especially in smaller local bouldering areas. 1. Add the option to mark prohibited holds (X markers) ability to mark holds that are not allowed to be used with an "X" directly on the boulder photo. These markers should only be visible when viewing the details of an individual route (boulder problem), not in the spot overview showing all routes on a boulder. Some spots can have even 20 or more problems packed closely together, making the spot overview difficult to read already. Displaying all the prohibited holds there would create unnecessary visual clutter. I understand that in areas like Fontainebleau, where there are countless spots and almost unlimited possibilities for creating lines, prohibited holds are often unnecessary. However, many smaller local climbing areas have a limited number of spots. In these places, defining problems through specific holds and restrictions is often essential. Without these restrictions, it can be nearly impossible to create a variety of challenging problems. 2. Enable zooming in individual route details (app) Currently, zooming works in the overall spot view, but not in the detail view of an individual route (boulder problem). When many routes overlap on the same spot, the overview becomes too cluttered to clearly identify specific holds. Being able to zoom in on a single problem would make it much easier to follow the exact line and distinguish allowed holds from prohibited ones. This is especially important in bouldering, where using just one wrong hold can turn a difficult problem into an easy one. 3. Add two markers to define the starting handholds two dots indicating the exact starting handholds of a boulder problem. This would make it immediately clear where each hand is supposed to start. Again, these dots should only appear in the individual route detail view, not in the spot overview of all routes (problems) on a boulder. This would keep the overview clean while providing all the necessary information when someone selects a specific problem. Thanks for considering these suggestions
Add a “Current location” button to the website map, similar to the one in the app, the one on Google Maps, etc. User story: The user wants to browse crags in his/hers surroundings. The user does not want to see all crags on the globe and does not want to zoom in every time the map page loads. Benefit: the page does not have to load and render all crags on the globe, which should mean less data transfer, memory and page load = many wins.
The join button is missing. Not sure if it is intentional or not. E.g. New: https://thetopo.com/beta/teams/bouldering-in-lofoten Old: https://thetopo.com/teams/bouldering-in-lofoten/members
On the spot image, routes with merged lines are shown properly (although the line that merges into the main line is not smooth/has a sharper bend at the point it merges). E.g. https://thetopo.com/beta/topos/lemmikneeme/spots/1-63067 But on the route details page only the part belonging to the route is shown by default: https://thetopo.com/beta/topos/lemmikneeme/routes/1-413550 Only when hovering over the line or clicking on it in the fullscreen view the whole line is shown:
For crags with forbidden access status, route list is accessible from the /access page. When clicking on a route in the /routelist page, the topo image opens.
On /routelist">https://thetopo.com/beta/areas/ /routelist sites, only the routes that load initially have proper highlighting collection or tick highlights, e.g. But when scrolling lower below the initially loaded routes, all routes have grey marks such as even if they actually belong to a collection on are ticked.
Testing on mobile, ios firefox. Cannot find way to add anchors etc. All drawing related features are still hidden on mobile?
Using team Jumba and todays notification as an example. The topo maintainership is expiring, but theres no way to see what topo that are expiring in the new web.
Currently when making a tick system assumes user agrees with the current grade and count it as a grade vote, and this leads to mess in grades. Grade vote should be opt in, not on by default. Sample case: Rovaniemi grading is especially sub7 is sooo sandbagged. Assuming tick grades makes situation to look worse. No way for topo admin to override this, the false user votes overrides the topo grade
Currently i filter the map, then open the a spot and see unfiltered route list. I would prefer having the same filtering on all views. For example: sport, 5 to 6a
In area i have been climbing lately the topo authors have been throwing lots of 3 star rating for average routes. Not one, not two, but almost always full three, or zero. I would highly prefer seeing rating from users, to get more relevant rating. Maybe show it dimly/smaller next to author rating. Or even better: add option to user settings to show only user rating
